Views of Alaska Oil Drilling Surveyed
Published Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 04:45 AM
A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press shows that some people may be changing their view of oil and gas drilling in environmentally sensitive areas like Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Conducted during late June, the Pew organization asked 2004 adults their views and found that half of those responding were in support drilling in ANWR. That’s about eight percent more than a similar survey taken during February.

About 47 percent now see energy exploration as more important than energy conservation and price or use regulation, up from 35 percent in February. The proportion saying it is more important to increase energy conservation and regulation has declined from 55 percent to 45 percent. It was the first time in seven years that more people opted for energy exploration than conservation and price regulation.
