Farm Bureau Re-Elects Steve Nelson as First Vice President

Kearney, Nebraska (Dec. 8, 2009) - Delegates to the Nebraska Farm Bureau Convention re-elected Steve Nelson of Axtell as the organization’s first vice president today (Dec. 8) in Kearney. They also elected or re-elected three members of Farm Bureau’s Board of Directors.
Nelson and his wife Elma raise corn and soybeans near Axtell. Nelson was elected to the Farm Bureau board in 1997 and was first elected as first vice president in 2002. He has chaired Farm Bureau’s State Legislative Policy Committee, its political action committee and its Platte River Task Force. The Nelsons are members of Kearney/Franklin County Farm Bureau.
Nathan Baratels of Elk Creek was elected to a first term to represent Farm Bureau District 1 in southeast Nebraska. He and his wife Jolene have a contract swine production facility, raise grain and have pastureland. Bartels has served as president of Johnson County Bureau and held other county offices, and has been a member of Farm Bureau’s State Legislative Policy Committee.
Mark McHargue of Central City was elected to a second term to represent Farm Bureau District 2 in central Nebraska. He and his wife Judi have a cash grain operation and a farrow-to-wean operation. He is a former Merrick County Farm Bureau president, and has served on the Farm Bureau State Legislative Policy Committee and State Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee.
John C. Martin of Pleasanton was elected to a second term to represent Farm Bureau District 5 in south central Nebraska. He and his wife Leslie have irrigated and dryland row crops and small grains and they background feeder cattle. Martin has served on Farm Bureau’s State Legislative Policy Committee and the Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee and formerly served on the Farm Bureau state board as the youth at-large director. He is a member of Buffalo County Farm Bureau.
All terms are for three years. The Nebraska Board of Directors has 13 members, who must all be farmers or ranchers.
