Ranching For Profitability Returns To Nebraska

The popular Ranching for Profitability series is making a return to Nebraska this winter. An excellent line-up of University of Nebraska experts will address topics of local interest to help cattlemen improve their profitability. Don Adams, District Director at the West Central Research and Extension Center and former UNL Extension Range Beef Cow Specialist will address A Systems Approach to Beef Production. Bruce Anderson, UNL Extension Forage Specialist will address Irrigated Forage Options for Sandhills Ranches, and Matt Spangler, UNL Extension Beef Genetics Specialist will present information about Using Current Technology and Information to make Genetic Selection Decisions. In addition, for the Ringgold program Bethany Johnston, Central Sandhills Extension Educator will discuss Grasshopper Outlook and Control. Other locations, the local Extension Educator will present a topic of local interest. The Ranching for Profitability series will be held in several locations throughout Nebraska in January. The complete schedule is as follows:

January 11, 2009 ONeill, 10:00 -3:00 p.m. Ainsworth, 5:00 -9:00 p.m. January 12, 2009 Elm Creek, Community Center 10:00 - 3:00 p.m Broken Bow, Broken Bow Country Club 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. January 13, 2009 Ringgold, Free Methodist Church 10:30 - 3:15 p.m. Valentine, Cedar Canyon Steakhouse 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. January 14, 2009 Kimball 10:00 - 3:00 p.m.

The cost to attend the Ranching for Profitability meetings is $10 and that can be payable at the door. Pre-registration, however, is required . Ringgold meal counts are due January 7, 2009. You can pre-register by calling the Lincoln-McPherson County Extension office at 308-532-2683 or 1-800-200-1381. To register for the other locations, contact that local extension office.
