Wheat tour finds central-Kansas wheat thriving
Published Thursday, May 08, 2008 at 05:04 AM

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ The condition of the winter wheat crop in central Kansas appears better than expected.

Participants on the annual Winter Wheat tour estimate overall yields of 45.5 bushels in north-central Kansas after the first leg of their tour on Tuesday. But fields in the far-western third of Kansas are showing some moisture stress.

Kansas State University wheat specialist Jim Shroyer says the western part of the state carried last year's crop. This year, he says, the central part of the state will carry the crop.
