BIG PINEY, Wyo. (AP) _ More than 4,400 acres of an historic western Wyoming ranch has been placed in permanent conservation. The action involving the Cross Lazy Two Ranch west of Big Piney is believed to be one of the largest one-time conservation easement purchases in terms of acreage conserved in the state. The property will continue to anchor the ranch's cattle operation for future generations as well as provide habitat for pronghorn, mule deer, moose, elk, birds and waterfowl. The property also includes a portion of the Lander Cutoff to the Oregon Trail that was used by migrating pioneers.
