President Calls for More Oil Drilling

The President says - when Congress comes back, they've got to understand that we need more domestic energy, not less. He says - one place to find it is offshore America, lands that have been taken off the books, so to speak, by congressional law. For weeks, the President has been urging Congress to lift a legislative ban on offshore oil drilling.
Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman says - initial flights showed no visible damage to 3,842 oil and gas production platforms along the Gulf Coast and that he expected quick restoration of production. Bodman expects oil production to approach 100 percent – within two weeks.
