LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ The parent company of the Nebraska Book Company says higher costs across its network of 260 bookstores contributed to a nearly 9 percent drop in net income over the past year. That's despite higher sales. NBC Acquisition Corporation recently reported 7.2 million dollars of net income during the fiscal year that ended March 31st. That's down from the 7.9 million dollars of net income the company reported in 2007. Nebraska Book Company President Mark Oppegard says he was pleased with the company's performance as it continues to grow. Oppegard says the company's growth was the main reason its operating expenses grew by 15.4 million dollars. About 250 of the company's bookstores serve college campuses, including one in Lincoln a couple blocks away from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
