Situation improves but some customers are still without power
Published Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 07:24 PM

From Dawson Public Power District:

Freezing rain and heavy snows caused several power outages for Dawson Public Power District customers in the North Platte, Brady, Gothenburg, Farnam, Cozad, Eustis, Lexington, Smithfield and Sumner areas.

Problems included ice buildup on the lines, trees that dropped limbs onto lines and ice popping off power lines, making them swing wildly.

The district estimates up to 1,000 customers were affected at the height of the outages. At 5:00 p.m., about 300 remained without power. Crews continue to work into the evening hours.
