Nebraska wheat harvest moving along

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Nebraska's wheat harvest is underway, and the corn crop is looking good. In southeast Nebraska, the wheat harvest is more than halfway done, but statewide the harvest is just getting started. The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service says about 11 percent of the state's wheat crop has been harvested. That's ahead of last year when 5 percent of the crop had been harvested, but that's still about a week behind the average. In corn fields, pollination is getting started because about 6 percent of the fields have developed silk. And 84 percent of the state's corn crop rates in good or excellent condition. That's well ahead of last year when 72 percent of Nebraska's corn rated good or excellent. ___ On the Net: USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service: www.nass.usda.gov
