Published Monday, March 31, 2008 at 11:03 AM

Cass County Iowa Supervisors signed an agreement to establish Unified Law Enforcement Districts with the cities of Lewis and Wiota. The agreement creates a contract for the provision of law enforcement services for cities in the district by the Cass County Sheriff. Under the agreement, the Cass County Sheriff's office will provide full law enforcement for the cities. Officials from the cities will be responsible for preparing city code violations and municipal infractions, including serving any notices according to the city codes, but the Cass County Sheriff's office would be responsible for filing any charges arising from those notices. Cass County established a July 1 deadline for other cities to get their agreements together.
