Washington County Filings Up
Published Monday, January 21, 2008 at 12:09 PM
Several filings ahead of the February and early March deadline for office in Washington County. Jeff Cerio, a member of the grassroots organization Save Our Hills, has filed for a spot on to the Washington County Board of Supervisors, in District 5. Another member of Save Our Hills has filed as a County Board candidate. Pam Daly of rural Fort Calhoun has filed for a seat on the Washington County Board of Supervisors, in District 1, the area currently represented by Marvin Rohwer, a Republican, also of Fort Calhoun. Because Daly has filed as a Democrat, she and Rohwer will not meet in the election ring until November. Cerio said this week he was frustrated with what he termed a lack of action and response to certain issues he and other members of the community have brought before the board during regular meetings. Meanwhile, Daly said her goals include a strategic growth plan that utilizes state of the art techniques for the preservation of Washington County's natural resources and rural culture, and a promise to work for providing incentives for new and existing farmers to restore agriculture in the community. She also advocates conservation design for subdivision development. Cerio is running against Jeff Quist who has been on the Board for nearly eight years. Ronald E. Hineline, a Republican from Fort Calhoun, has filed for the District 7 seat, currently held by Kent Wilcox of Blair. Wilcox has not filed for re-election. Daryl Miller of Blair, a longtime member of the Board of Supervisors, announced earlier this month that he has decided not to run for re-election after 12 years representing District 3. Former state Sen. Mick Mines has filed papers with the Washington County Clerk seeking election from District 3. The deadline to file for any county government position with the Washington County Clerk is Feb. 15 for incumbents and March 3 for non-incumbents.
