A rural Stanton County cattle owner has posted bail after he was arrested last week for numerous counts of animal cruelty or neglect.

Lowell Schroeder, who lives about six miles southwest of Stanton, was arrested Thursday for multiple counts of felony animal cruelty or neglect, said Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger.

Unger said the charges have yet to be reviewed by Stanton County Attorney Bert Lammli, so no formal charges had been filed as of Monday morning.

Unger said a large quantity of cows has been found dead on his property, and the exact count has yet to be determined.

Schroeder was released after posting 10 percent of a $10,000 cash bond, the sheriff said.
