Slick Roads Contribute To Accidents
Published Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 01:24 PM

Slick roads are to blame for two fatal accidents in northeast Nebraska Monday.

The Nebraska State Patrol says 22-year-old Rachel Dixon of Wayne died when she lost control of her car on Highway 35 near Hoskins. Dixon's car skidded into the path of an oncoming semi. Investigators say slush and ice contributed to the accident, which happened around 8:10 a.m.

A second crash just 20 minutes later claimed the life of a Winside, Nebraska, woman. Wayne County deputies say Judy Jacobsen lost control of her vehicle on Highway 57, two miles south of Carroll. It rolled several times, ejecting her from the vehicle. Deputies say Jacobsen was not wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A slushy highway surface contributed to the accident.
