LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ An Omaha man has been named to head Nebraska's Department of Health and Human Services, the state's largest agency. Gov. Dave Heineman announced Monday that he had selected Kerry Winterer as the agency's chief executive officer. The 59-year-old Winterer has worked in health care since 1988, when he co-founded The Benefit Group, Inc. That company administers health care and other plans for small employers. Winterer currently serves on the Nebraska State Board of Education, after being appointed to the board in 2007 and elected last year. Winterer will replace Christine Peterson, who retired in January, and direct an agency with a budget of $2.9 billion and about 5,500 employees. Winterer is set to begin in the new post on July 13. His salary will be $155,000. ___
