Neb. man found guilty in bomb threat case

LEXINGTON, Neb. (AP) _ A Nebraska man will be sentenced in October for a bomb threat last year that forced the evacuation of a Cozad manufacturing plant. Kevin Bates of Gothenburg recently pleaded guilty in Dawson County District Court to threatening to use an explosive device. In exchange, several other charges were dropped. Authorities say the 34-year-old Bates called automotive parts manufacturer Tenneco on Nov. 4 and told a receptionist that a bomb was in the building. Police say they were able to trace the call to a pay phone at a local gas station and that security video taken by the station showed Bates placing the call. Bates also pleaded no contest at the hearing to making terroristic threats for holding a woman against her will in December.
