Exeter OKs pool; Broken Bow nixes school
Published Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 11:12 AM
A new pool and new school were among the local issues decided during Nebraska's primary elections. In Exeter on Tuesday, voters approved an extra 1.5 percent local sales tax to support a new city pool. Lancaster County voters rejected a proposal to issue up to $65 million in bonds for a new jail. But county commissioners had already decided that regardless of the vote, construction on the 664-bed jail would proceed. A new 520-seat, $4.6 million performing arts center was approved for Central City, and Valley County voters approved a $21.2 million hospital project. In Broken Bow, a $9.4 million bond issue for a new elementary school was overwhelmingly defeated, and a levy override of 15 cents per $100 of taxable valuation also failed.
