KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) _ An Elm Creek man accused of trying to kill his wife has pleaded no contest in Buffalo county district court to two felony charges in the January attack. Donald Hasbrouck entered his plea to charges of first-degree assault and making terroristic threats. A charge of attempted second-degree murder was dismissed. The 34-year-old faces up to 25 years in prison. Hasbrouck previously said he was insane when he tried to kill his wife. Authorities have said Hasbrouck punched his wife several times and told her he was going to kill her during an altercation in their home on Jan. 6. She fled to a neighbor's home and called 911. Authorities said that as she was being treated by medical personnel at the scene, Hasbrouck went into a garage and fired a single rifle shot at her through a garage window. It missed.
