Hays- Four defensive stands inside its own 30 yard line helped the Nebraska all stars knock off Kansas 20-12 Saturday night in the 2nd annual eight man all star football game which was played at Fort Hays State University. The Kansas all stars had drives stall at the Nebraska 12, 26, and two drives that were ended at the 28. Kansas had a chance to potentially tie the game late in the 4th quarter after recovering an onside kick, but quarterback Mason Salmans from Pawnee Heights fumbled on 4th down with 1:18 remaining. Cody Gurney of Burwell recovered the fumble for Nebraska which then ran out the clock. Nebraska jumped out to a 14-0 led in the second quarter thanks to 1 yard touchdown runs from Brendan Jorgensen of Cedar Bluffs and quarterback Brett Kaczor of Ewing. Those scores were set up by a pair of passes to Andrew Bauer of Elgin. Kansas responded with a 70 yard drive right before half as Salmons connected with Kory Lonberger of Tescott on a 31 yard pass play with 17 seconds left in the 2nd. In the third quarter, Kansas failed to execute after taking over at the Nebraska 16 after a blocked punt and its next drive began at the Nebraska 30 after a fumble. Nebraska then extended the lead to 20-6 when Andrew Bauer who replaced an injured Brett Kaczor at quarterback raced in from 8 yards out with 10:17 left in the fourth quarter. Kansas then responded with 64 yard touchdown drive that ended when guard Zach Cyphers of Clifton/Clide recover a fumble in the end zone with 1:58 left. Nebraska was led by Kaczor who rushed for 55 yards on 15 carries, he was 7-14 passing for 124 yards. He was named the offensive player MVP for Nebraska, Tyler Bartak of Anselmo Merna was named the defensive MVP for Nebraska. Bartak totaled 9 tackles, 1 sack, 3 tackles for loss, he also forced three fumbles and had a fumble recovery. Mason Salmans was the offensive MVP for Kansas, while Jordon Ottley of Victoria was named the defensive MVP. Nebraska was able to avenge a 31-14 loss to Kansas last year.
